With current energy prices in mind, the Netherlands is also looking for alternatives for sustainable heating. In the Overhees district of Soest, a pilot project was therefore set up in which one of the 13 ponds supplies aquathermal heat to a children's farm in the middle of the district.

EXTRAQT was involved in this project for detailed monitoring of the cooling due to the test set-up. In addition, this cooling was also modelled in 3D with our digital twins in order to predict what the connection of 40 newly built houses (280kW) would mean for this pond. The impact of the installation was barely measurable, which was also confirmed in the modelling. With a maximum cooling of 0.03°C, it could be proved that the ponds in Soest have a large thermal potential (about 500kW) and work can now start on a large-scale master plan for all 13 ponds in the district.
